Pinterest is already one of the strongest platforms for visual discovery, but the planning process can still feel slow and overwhelming. Users often spend a long time scrolling, saving, and sorting ideas before a board feels cohesive. This project explores how an AI-powered board generator could help users move from inspiration to a structured plan much faster.
This concept focuses on a new Pinterest feature that generates curated mood boards based on a user’s planning goal, aesthetic preferences, and color palette. The project includes product strategy, customer insights, market analysis, UX flows, feature mockups, business model thinking, KPI planning, A/B testing, growth loops, risk analysis, and technical feasibility.
What I did

These mockups illustrate the concept of AI-generated Pinterest mood boards. Users enter what they are planning, choose an aesthetic, and select a color palette, allowing the platform to generate a curated board instantly. The goal of this feature is to reduce the time it takes for users to move from inspiration to a structured plan while keeping the experience flexible and editable.

The customer journey map helped identify the key moments where users experience friction while planning projects on Pinterest. Many users spend a long time searching and saving pins before a board begins to feel cohesive. Mapping this journey highlighted an opportunity for AI-assisted curation to simplify the early stages of the planning process.

The market size analysis explores the opportunity for AI-driven visual planning tools within the broader inspiration and creative discovery space. Pinterest already has a large global user base, but expanding AI-assisted planning tools could capture even more engagement from users planning events, spaces, fashion, and lifestyle projects. This analysis helped validate that the feature idea could scale within a growing visual discovery market.
