Website Design & Development | Capstone Project
FocusedVPN was a capstone project where I designed and built a website for a VPN service focused on helping users protect their privacy and browse the internet securely. The goal of the project was to create a clear, modern website that explains complex technology in a way that feels simple and approachable for everyday users.
For my capstone project, I explored how constant digital distractions and instant gratification habits affect college students’ ability to focus in academic settings. Through initial research, I found that many students struggle to stay focused when studying or working online because social media, notifications, and entertainment sites are always easily accessible.
I began researching how this behavior translates into the classroom and how technology might be used to help students stay more focused rather than becoming another source of distraction. From this research, I developed the idea for FocusedVPN — a concept for a VPN-style tool designed to help students block distracting websites and create a more focused online environment.
The challenge was to design a website that clearly communicates the value of this tool while explaining a technical concept in a way that feels simple and approachable for college students.
My Role
For this project, I was responsible for the full website design and development process. My work included:
Researching student focus habits and the role of instant gratification in this digital world, especially in the classroom
Conducting interviews and user testing with students to understand their study habits and pain points
Designing the layout and visual structure of the website
Developing the website pages and navigation
Writing and organizing content to explain the product and its benefits clearly
Creating a user-friendly structure to guide visitors through the concept and value of the tool

What I Learned
This project strengthened my ability to translate research insights into a digital product concept. By interviewing and testing ideas with students, I was able to better understand how technology influences attention and productivity.
It also helped me develop stronger skills in structuring web content, designing user-focused layouts, and thinking strategically about how messaging, design, and navigation work together to communicate an idea clearly.
